Saturday's flea market finds

Hello! Thank you for your enthusiastic comments to last weeks post. I will let you know as soon as there is news on the workshop front.

Last week was one of those weeks when my 'to do' list was full, but I only got half of the things done. There was no time left for spontaneous actions. The thing is....I have myself to blame. Can't say 'no' to sweet invitations. I also have a tendency to be enthusiastic about lots of things :-). Does this sound familiar to you? I managed to keep a few empty spaces in my diary next week. Hurray! With a bit of luck, I will be able to do some work in the garden. How I love to go there.

I started on a four day photography course last Thursday. It made me realize how much there still is to learn. Since then I can't think clearly any more. My head is filled with technical details. Today is my last day. We will go to one of Rotterdam's harbour areas, to take photographs. It's one of my favourite places in town. It's where the new blends in with the old, where 19th century warehouses stand side by side with majestic sky scrapers. Oh and the river..., our Erasmusbrug. It's impressive, summer or winter! The perfect setting for a photography course. Hopefully I will be able to combine the technical details with the way I look at things. Ha, ha :-)

Today's photo's were taken two weeks ago. I found some lovely vintage items at the Saturday flea market: a dolls dress, fabric, colourful tins, a 1930s pink glass decanter set and a two cheerful tea cups. I am not sure where I will use the fabric for, but I think it will make a beautiful tablecloth for in my garden. One of the last things I always do when visiting the market, is buying flowers to take home with me. It won't be long before I can pick them from my own garden!

Have you been vintiguing lately?

Wishing you a lovely Sunday and a Happy week ahead!

Love,

Madelief x

  1. Hoi Madelief,
    Lieve groet,
    Mirjam

  2. Beautiful finds and beautiful colours Madelief ….. you have such a wondeful way of putting things together…… and, there's nothing like having flowers in the house is there ? It was my birthday yesterday and lots of people bought me flowers and, what with the weather being so beautiful at the moment, if feels as if Spring has arrived early !!!!
I'm sure that you can't wait to get out into your garden ……. I am looking forward to seeing photographs of it and, with your new photography skills, they should be even more wonderful !!!! haha …. no pressure !!!!

  6. Liebste Meisterfotografin,

Wo kommt bloß das ganze Zeug her ?

  12. Good morning Madelief my dear!

I love that you are taking a photography course and that you are learning that there is much to be learned yet. That is how I felt last summer when my husband and I took a poetry course. It was so revealing, and changed our writing goals! I hope to take another course this summer.

I have been learning more about photography through you, and others whose photos speak to me. I could never, ever quite understand what it was or is that strikes me so about your photos.....since things like focus and certainly the details of my own camera escape me, I am finding what it is that I LIKE. Taking small steps to try to emulate what I like has been resulting in better photos. For example, I LOVE how you capture a pin-pointed detail on your scape. A tea cup, or just one part of the bouquet, while the rest of the flowers are a bit blurred in the background, giving a soft touch. Those things I had never noticed. I also noticed that I don't arrange color enough to make that POPPING impact that I love....see how important it is to notice things? I seem to do that with LARGE IDEAS and try to communicate that through little stories or poetry, but with photos? I have so much to learn.

Thank you for being a friend in my garden and through winter's blast or summer's warmth, it is always a pleasure to see you.

You were on my mind last week when I discovered in a charity shoppe a 1 liter pitcher made in Austria with hand painted flowers (our colours Dear!), discarded perhaps by a military family? I added 3 dessert plates with ocean motives and 2 Erica Knight knitting books before checking out and feeling on top of the world!

  41. Madelief, our recent New York City weather has been so cold, that it's been wise to try to limit time ourdoors.

Today was so much milder, but my earlier week's training held strong, and I got my errands done quickly so I could return to fair isle knitting in my warm apartment.

    Your finds are fabulous. xo

  42. Dearest Madelief,
Well, I did finish a lot of things last week but now I'm worn out... got in bed by 2:00 AM after ironing 6 shirts for Pieter and a linen nightgown for me. Have done loads of laundry and cleaning the house. Now it makes sense since the rough soil digging is over with. Felines no longer can roll in the loose sand and track it up the staircase.
But you for sure had some interesting days with your photography course. So much to learn indeed. From what I gather here, there is not much time left for you to feel lonely or whatsoever. Keeping your agenda jam-packed is positive in a way and sweet invitations are also great for attending.
Stay well and enjoy what you are doing. We took a long walk today in 22°C weather; what a contrast with past week's -9°C frost and ice... That's Georgia; they joke about it having 7 springs. Up and Down before spring stays put.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

yes, it is important sometimes, to leave free space in the calendar for yourself. But such a photography course is interesting - and it's also "for yourself" :o) - although I think you are already perfect photographing. And your color feeling is wonderful - you have matched your posting colors so beautiful again! I love the way you displayed your flea-market-finds and flowers!!!
I don't know if you have got my email, so I write it to you here too: Your parcel has arrived safe and wonderful to me! YEAH!!! Thank you!!! I am very happy - and I'm going to photograph my new treasures soon and show them to "the blogger world"!
Warm hugs and Küschelbüschels - and a happy new week!
