Decorate with flowers

After two weeks in the UK (the Peak District and North York moors) it feels good to be home again. The girls and I had a lovely time, visiting quaint villages, country houses and gardens. We made some beautiful walks across wild moorland, with far reaching views of the countryside. We felt privileged to be able to enjoy the beauty that Britain has to offer. Hope you had a good time too?! If you are still enjoying your summer holiday, have fun! In the coming months I will take you with me on our adventures.

In my last post I told you about the book Decorating with flowers or Wohnen mit Blumen by Holly Becker and Leslie Shewring, which Callwey publishers kindly permitted me to giveaway

It's an absolutely beautiful book! It's colourful, pleasing to the eye and filled to the brim with creative ideas of how to display your flowers best, either home grown or shop bought. The book is a combination of modern and vintage style. It has for instance a chapter on flea market finds, whites and pastel and neon colours. If you would like to see some photo's, please have a look at the website of Callwey publishers.

The book inspired me to go into my garden and make this post for you. If you would like to participate in the draw, please say so in your comment. I have to tell you though that the book is in German. So please bear that in mind. Anyone can participate. The giveaway will end on Saturday the 15th of August. I will announce the winner in my next blogpost.

Wishing you good luck and a lovely week ahead!

Madelief x

* Thank you for your sweet comments on my last blog post and suggestions on places to visit.

Your garden has been blooming away in your absence, so many pretty flowers!
Please enter me in you lovely giveaway!
    Have a good week,
    V x

  2. So glad you enjoyed your visit to the UK Madelief. We were in the Peak District for a brief visit earlier this year and probably visited some of the same places - it is gorgeous.

As well as visiting some of the lovely countryside here, we too like to get away and have just returned from a trip to Sweden, admiring the Swedish style, and sailing around the Archipelago. Very special.

  3. Your arrangements are beautiful! Glad you had a great time away. Not entering the giveaway because I cannot speak German and would surely need instructions on how to arrange flowers in any way other than plonking them in a vase! Your garden looks fabulous too as always!!! xx

  4. Lieve Madelief,

  5. Just lovely. Madelief, I thoroughly enjoyed every photo you shared on Instagram of your trip. You capture the essence of the garden experience, and I always wonder how you manage to take photos where there are no people or other distractions to the photo! Lovely and PLEASE INCLUDE me in the draw for the book!

    Welcome home my friend. Anita

  6. A beautiful book and your flowers match your dresses ….. what could be more perfect Madelief ?!!!!!!
I'm so pleased that you all had a wonderful holiday here in England and, I think that the weather was kind wasn't it ? I look forward to seeing your photographs. XXXX

  7. How wonderful regions you visited in England ! I love this country! It is so beautiful! The countryside is magnificent, it looks nice around Whitby and North York moors. I love your second series of bouquets, your pretty pictures, pastel and soft. This book is beautiful, filled with fine tips and beautiful pictures, I do not speak German well enough to understand everything, unfortunately.
Thank you Madelief and nice sunday !
    Hugs xxx

LG Kirsten

  11. Madelief, these floral displays are stunning - just natural and loose, the way I love to arrange flowers, no stiff, formal 'arrangements'. I especially love the gentle colors of the last grouping - they would be perfect with my natural shades/white decor. I won't enter this time as I don't speak German, and my flowers are decimated this Summer with a drought and very high temperatures - good luck though to the eventual winner.

So happy to know you and the girls enjoyed another beautiful area of England - looking forward to seeing pix later.
    Hugs - Mary

  12. I would love to join in the giveaway! I will be gone for 2 weeks - if I am lucky enough to win - I will send you my address when I return. We are going camping to a high alpine lake in Oregon USA. I loved all your flower photos.. I have many of the same flowers in my garden but they are long gone as we've had a very hot dry summer. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  13. Welcome back Madelief! From your notes, you really have enjoyed the holiday and that is good for we´ll be showered with lots of your adventures in the UK!

Yes, I would love to join and would love to have the book "Wohnen mit Blumen" ...I speak german so this would be a lovely source of inspirations! Glad that you´re back!

  14. Madelief your bouquets are so lovely... I am so very glad you and your daughters had a wonderful holiday in the UK.
Our Exchange friends from Zeist met up with us on Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada and it does not seem like a year ago that we were in your beautiful country. They are so lucky to do 2-3 exchanges a year all over the World.
Enjoy the rest of your summer in the garden.

  15. Hallo Madelief,

  23. Dearest Madelief,
how nice that you're back again! :o) And how nice that you had a good time in UK!
Your photos are pretty, cheerful, colorful - just wonderful!
You are so talented in decorating with flowers - much more than I am, so may be I've good luck and win the guide book ;o) [But it wouldn't be a big problem if not: There are not so many blooms in our garden this year. It's mutch too hot. We have about 30 degrees Celsius since weeks and weeks here (today there are 36 ° ... uff I'm a "Viking girl"! ;o)! I'm not used to this!)]
Lots of Küschelbüschel-Hugs and a hapy new week,

  28. So glad you enjoyed your UK visit! I have yet to visit the Yorkshire Moors! Lovely flowers from your garden. I have missed your posts and seeing your beautiful photographs. I won't enter the draw as I am not really a gardener but I am sure you will get lots of inspiration from Holly's book. You might also like her decor book called DECORATE Workshop. Happy week for you Madelief. x

IG is forcing me to take the best possible photos with what I have for the moment; my husband wants to buy me a lens or even TWO to help vary my photo possibilities! All of this for fun, but also to increase my range of possibilities.

You my dear are an inspiration to us all. Have a wonderful day back at work! Anita

Over the moon to hear that you all had a lovely time in the U.K.!
Sure with their climate the gardens are a dream and you appreciate that more than anyone.
Lovely photos, with the lovely book combined. You of course are a genius in matching the colors!
    Sending you hugs,

  40. I am so glad that you enjoyed your holiday here in England. This is a beautiful post, and as usual, your images so cheer me, as does your lovely home and garden. A gorgeous book, alas I do not speak German, but I am certain whoever wins it will enjoy it enormously. x

  41. I do hope that you find me way down here at the bottom. I am slow in visiting this week. I am always in awe of your beautiful flowers, somewhat like a fairytale. And I must say that I a bit envious of your trip to the UK. Did you visit Haworth where the Brontes lived? I have the very good fortune to have toured England twice with Haworth on the tour twice, one my most favorite places. I hope to return to York one day to wander the moors, too.

  42. Hello Madelief, so glad you had a lovely time in England with your daughters. The North York Moors are very lovely aren't they? Your book sounds wonderful and your photos are beautiful. You always do' decorate with flowers', it's nothing new to you! Hoping you and the family are well. Much love, Linda x

  43. Hej Madelief, fijn dat jullie een goede vakantie hebben gehad in het prachtige Engeland. Nu kun je nog fijn nagenieten in je tuin met dit mooie zomerweer. Prachtige foto's en altijd zo kleurrijk. Lieve groet,

  44. Hello Madelief, such a beautiful book! I'd love to join in the giveaway please. I'm goi g to make a pot of tea and catch up with all your adventures now.

    Love Claire xxx
