With love to Budapest

When we set off for Budapest more than a week ago, my husband and I didn't know what to expect. Leaving comments on a blog and sending occasional emails does say something about the people we were to meet at Ferihegy airport, but nevertheless they could have been as mad as a hatter! Several scenario's crossed our minds. Our daughters even contemplated giving us the number of the Dutch embassy in Hungary. Just in case!

After lingering at baggage claims just a little bit too long, we finally gained enough courage to set foot in the arrivals hall, where we were enveloped in a big hug by our dear friends. At that moment we knew 'all was well'.

We had four delightful days, full of talking & sightseeing. We didn't see Buda, nor one of the major museums and we only caught a glimpse of the Danube, but what we did see exceeded our expectations: Bruce Willis in action for his latest Die hard film ;-)!

In this post some photo's of the amazing buildings we passed when discovering the city. From Jugendstil apartments to Gothic cathedrals.

In one of my next posts I will take you for a coffee to one of Budapest's many coffee houses, show you an amazing antique shop, have a look at the Szechenyi Bath and see how one of Hungary's famous poets lived!

For now I wish you a Happy Sunday!

Love from a rainy Rotterdam. With a special kiss and hug to our friends in Hungary.

  2. Dear Madelief - lovely to see the wonderful architecture in Budapest. The stairway on photo No. 4 is really grand and majestic.
I liked your little introduction concerning your apprehensions, I can well imagine that J & L probably had similar thoughts. Your pun about 'mad as a hatter' is very clever.

  27. Liebste Madelief,

  29. Hello Madelief:
Your photographs are, as always, stunning. And today we see Budapest through your eyes and are observing all manner of small details which otherwise we could so easily miss. Each picture does, of course, bring back so many memories of the happy and joyful days, also filled with such mirth and merriment, which we spent with you.

Now, you might have lingered in the baggage reclaim area, what if we, taking fright at the prospect of it all, had hopped smartly back on the airport bus?!! Mad as hatters, indeed!!

  30. Wonderful photos today, Madelief! I love how you look at cities and capture the decorative details for us in your own special way...your Budapest pictures are stunning. I'm very glad that you had a wonderful time with your friends (despite the understandable apprehension at first), and that it didn't turn out to be a mad hatter's tea party after all!! I am looking forward to seeing the next pictures :)
    Have a happy Sunday!

  40. Hello Madelief

There is an added excitement in meeting a person we have corresponded with yet never met. I have always been pleased and delighted with my meetings.(blind dates excepted) Often my pre-formed opinion and image does not match that of the person. In reading J & L's comments and yours it seems like a wonderful time.

Your photos are spectacular and I can hardly wait to visit beautiful Budapest and two special people I hold close to my heart.

  48. Dear Madelief

Your visit to Budapest sounds wonderful and with J&L as guides and hosts how could it not be:-) However I do understand your reticence and none of us can really know each other before meeting in person. Your daughter's comment did make me chuckle.

A while ago on J&L's blog I commented that I have always wanted to visit Budapest, they replied by saying that they 'would be on the tarmac to meet me' should I wish to do so! So very J&L - generous, open and completely mad!

I look forward to seeing more of their delightful city in your next post.

We feel that we get to know each other so well in our little blog world - but I am a firm believer that in reality, if it feels right, then I believe that it IS right, so well done for going with your instincts, and I am sure that you are having a marvelous time! deine Bilder sind wunderschön.
