Beautiful Edinburgh

Hello,

Just a quick post to let you know that I have not abandoned my blog :-) The temptation was there though. It is such a delight to have more time on your hands, to do those things you always want to do, but you decide against. Having a garden that needs a lot of attention and a blog you have to keep up and take photo's for, can sometimes be a burden. It helps to distance oneself from it all now and then and relax. That's exactly what I did.

So, I am back. With renewed energy and inspiration. The girls and I had a wonderful time. We fell in love with Edinburgh. It's the combination of it's rich heritage and history, the amazing architecture, interesting places to visit and nature on it's doorstep. According to the girls, it's hip and classy too.

We walked the streets of New Town, Old Town, Stockbridge and Dean Village. Visited the Scottish national library, the Georgian house and many other places of interest. We made some beautiful walks along the river Dean to the botanical gardens, and one to the top of Arthur's seat, where we admired the view. We also did some vintage shopping at Armstrong & sons. Never seen a collection of vintage clothes as large as theirs before.  

We did not want to leave.....There is so much more to discover. We will definitely be back!

Summer break

After almost two weeks of constant and sometimes even torrential rain, we had a sunny and dry afternoon. Such a delight to be sitting in the garden once more, enjoying the sun on my face.

I had not been to the garden for a while, and was afraid the wind and rain would have played havoc with it. Quite the contrary. Although I had to find my way through the jungle, that was once my garden path, all looked well. One of the climbing roses in front of the garden house had come loose and several tall flowers lay flat on the ground, but nothing I could not fix. 

Several roses were still in flower. A variety of yellow, pink, white and blue summer flowers kept them company. I picked a huge bunch to take home with me.

My middle daughter helped me out in the greenhouse. The tomatoes are doing fine, but what they need is sunshine, lots of it. The courgette had patches of powdery mildew on it's leaves. We removed them and hope that the other plants in the greenhouse have not been infected. The first cucumbers and gherkins are visible.

This is my last post before the summer holiday. I am taking a blog break. The girls and I are looking forward very much to spend some time at the seaside and in the garden, go canoeing, visit family and friends and discover Edinburgh in Scotland.
