Pastel beauties

Voor bloemen heb ik een zwak. Ik vind het heerlijk om door tuinboeken te bladeren, op zoek naar mooie snijbloemen voor in onze tuin. Onlangs heb ik op internet, via tuincentrum Lottum, een aantal kale wortels gekocht van rozen, onder andere de Comte de Chambord, Variegata di Bologna en Pierre de Ronsard. De Pierre de Ronsard roos kwam ik tegen op de blog van Cecilia. Zij woont in Chili en heeft werkelijk schitterende rozen in haar tuin. Neem maar eens een kijkje! Ook in huis heb ik altijd wel één of twee boeketten staan. Liefst met bloemen uit eigen tuin. s' Winters lukt dit helaas niet. Dan ga ik op zaterdagochtend naar de markt om daar mijn hart op te halen. Vaak kom ik met mijn armen vol thuis. Mijn voorkeur gaat uit naar.......roze, witte en paars/lila bloemen! De foto's die ik in dit berichtje heb geplaatst wilde ik graag met jullie delen. De laatste vijf boeketjes komen uit eigen tuin!

Flowers are one of my weaknesses. I enjoy looking through garden books in search of pretty cutting flowers to plant in my garden. The high trees in my garden give a lot of shade, so this is quite a challenge. I recently bought some bare roots of roses via the internet.; the Comte de Chambord, Variegata di Bologna and Pierre de Ronsard. I came upon de Pierre de Ronsard rose while visiting Cecilia's blog. Cecilia lives in a beautiful part of Chile and has the most fabulous roses in her garden. Please take a look at her blog! My house is always filled with flowers. I have at least two bouquets in my living room. I prefer fresh cut flowers from my garden, but in winter this is no option. In the cold months I buy my flowers at the local market, which is held on saturday morning. I often come back with full arms. My favourite colours are the ones you see in todays post. The little bouquets in the last five pictures were made by me.

Belle's room

Vandaag laat ik jullie een paar foto's zien van de kamer van mijn jongste dochter Annebelle. Zoals jullie kunnen zien houd zij erg van lila! Belle heeft een heerlijke zonnige kamer vol vrolijke kleuren. Het grote schilderij op de bovenste foto heb ik een jaar of drie geleden zelf gemaakt. Het was een hele klus, maar Belle & ik zijn er erg blij mee. Ik schilder nog steeds graag, maar doordat ik andere dingen ook leuk vind, zoals bloggen, koken en fotograferen, gun ik mij nauwelijks nog de tijd om te schilderen. Op het moment heb ik een enorm schilderij achter het gordijn in de woonkamer staan dat ik nog af moet maken....... misschien in de zomervakantie..... Het schilderij dat hieronder in het mozaik staat afgebeeld is geschilderd door mijn vader. Ons  huis hangt vol met zijn felgekleurde werken. Zo handig om een vader te hebben die schildert! :) Binnenkort laat ik jullie meer van zijn werk zien.

Today I show you some pictures of Annebelle's room. Belle is my youngest daughter. As you can see she likes purples and lilacs. She has a sunny room full of bright colours. The large painting on the first picture was made by me a few years ago. It was a lot of work, but Belle and I enjoy looking at it very much. I still paint, but because I enjoy singing, blogging, gardening and other things as well, I can hardly find time. There is a huge painting standing behind the curtains in our living room, that I still have to finish...Hopefully in 2010! The painting you can see in the mosaic was made by my father. His paintings are simply beautiful! It's so handy to have a father who can make such beautiful things! When I visit the loft where he paints and I see something that I like, I just have to mention it and its mine! Our house is filled with his colourful work! I will show you some more of his paintings soon.

Spring on my mind

Het is pas 3 januari, maar ik ben al druk bezig met de lente. De tuin- en zadenboeken liggen naast mij op de bank en de eerste ideeen over hoe ik mijn groente- en bloemenvakken dit jaar ga indelen zitten in mijn hoofd. De Zinnia's bevielen mij het afgelopen jaar goed, dus die komen er zeker weer in. Ook de Cosmea's zet ik weer in de tuin. Deze keer wil ik geen komkommers meer in de kas. Vorig jaar groeiden die niet zo best. Verder wil ik graag wat meer verschillende soorten tomaten.

Voor gewone zaden, maar ook bijzondere zaden, van bijvoorbeeld 'Vergeten groenten',  is Zaadhandel Vreeken in Dordrecht de winkel waar je moet zijn. Gisteren ging ik samen met mijn man en een lijstje met namen van bloemen, groenten en kruiden op pad om het een en ander aan te schaffen. Voor diegenen die graag willen weten welke zaden wij hebben gekocht; artisjok Violet de Provence, tomaat Green Zebra, tomaat Yellow Pear, sjalotten Ambition, Venkelknol Zefa Fino, Zinnia Dream (lavendel/lila kleur), Zinnia Purple Prince (paars) en de kruiden dille en koriander.

Na afloop wandelden we gelijk een 'Rondje Dordt'. Door de oude binnestad met nog veel zeventiende eeuwse huizen, langs de havens, naar Villa Augustus. Dordrecht is een prachtige stad en met een klein laagje sneeuw wel heel pittoresk!

Villa Augustus is mooie, gezellige gelegenheid waar je heelijk kan eten, maar ook overnachten. Het interieur is een mix van oud en nieuw, design en kistch. Het is van de eigenaren van Hotel New York in Rotterdam, en dat kan je zien. Het ligt op een prachtig plekje aan het Wantij. Niet alleen het hotel en restaurant zijn de moeite waard, maar ook de tuin is prachtig. Ik kan mij zo voorstellen dat de tuin in de lente en zomer, wanneer alle bloemen en planten in volle bloei staan, alleen nog maar meer tot zijn recht komt!

It's only January the third, but I already have spring on my mind! The garden and seed books lay next to me on the couch and my head is filled with ideas of my garden. What do I want to grow in my vegetable plot and which flowers do I want for cutting? The Zinnia's did well last year, so I keep them. I also want the Cosmea's back. The cucumbers are definitely out. I have tried them for two years, but the crop wasn't that good. What I would like is more different kinds of tomatoes.

For ordinary seeds, but also for special seeds of  vegetables from centuries long ago (in Holland we call them 'Forgotten vegetables') Zaadhandel Vreeken in Dordrecht is the place to be. You can order through the internet, but we visited the shop yesterday. It's much more fun. There is so much to see. We bought seeds of Artichoke 'Violet de Provence', tomatoes 'Green Zebra' and 'Yellow pear', Fennel 'Zefa Fino' and Zinnia 'Purple prince' and 'Dream' (lilac/lavender colour).

Afterwards we walked through the old centre of Dordrecht. Dordrecht still has many buildings dating back to the seventeenth century. With a thin layer of snow Dordrecht looks even more pittoresque! We had lunch at Vila Augustus. Formerly an old water tower, it is a hotel/restaurant now. It has the same owners as Hotel New York in Rotterdam, and it shows. The interior is a good mix of contemporary and design, kitsch and brocante. Our lunch was excellent. The garden is lovely. I can imagine that in spring and summer, with all the flowers and plants in full bloom, it must be even more pretty!

Does anyone know what tree this is? It is already in full bloom and so pretty!

 

  

Happy New Year!

Allemaal een mooi, gezond en creatief 2010! Leuk om na een korte pauze weer terug te zijn in blogland. Tussen het bakken van de tulband en de koekjes door heb ik jullie blogs zo nu en dan toch gevolgd. Ik kon het gewoonweg niet laten..... Ik hoop dat jullie gezellige dagen hebben gehad?! Voor ons was het vooral een familiefeest. We hebben met z'n allen de cadeautjes uitgepakt die onder de kerstboom lagen en samen gegeten. Verder had ik heerlijk de tijd om allerlei klusjes in huis te doen, bordspelletjes te spelen met mijn man en dochters en een bezoekje te brengen aan een museum. Ook heb ik aan mijn huiswerkopdracht gewerkt voor een opleiding die ik voor mijn werk volg. Wat heerlijk dat ik daar eindelijk mee klaar ben, pffff! Mijn 'to do' lijstje is nagenoeg leeg. Wat een heerlijk gevoel om zo het nieuwe jaar in te gaan!

A Happy New Year to you all! I hope it will be a year full of love, happiness, health and creativity and a good year for blogging too. It's good to be back. In between baking a tulband and preparing my Christmas dinner I now and then looked at your blogs. It's difficult not to do so :) I hope you all had a good time. Like most of you, Christmas to us is about family. We opened up the presents that had been placed under the tree and had a lovely Christmas dinner together. I spent the days between Christmas and the New Year with my husband and girls. I did some chores in the house, played board games with the girls and visited a museum. I also did my homework, for a course I take for my work. I am so happy it is finally done ...pfff. My 'to do list' is a lot more empty. What a great feeling to start the new year with!

Walking in a winter wonderland

This is my last post before Christmas. I am taking a short break from blogging, so the next two weeks I won't be leaving messages either. From tomorrow on I will be in the kitchen with my girls, baking cookies, merinques and all kind of other delicious treats. I also have to make some preparations for our Christmas dinner. My parents and my brother with his little son will visit. This year we divided courses. My mother will prepare the first course, my brother the desert and I will be responsible for the main course. I will make something simple; Boeuf Bourguignon with baked potatoes (my fathers favourite), red cabbage with apple, salade and cooked pears. A lot of presents have been placed in front of our fireplace and under the Christmas tree by Santa. The girls have to wait a few more days.... !

The pictures I show you today were made last sunday, when my husband and I made a walk to our garden. It was truly a winter wonderland!

Our Christmas tree

Dear blogfriends, thank you very much for your kind birthday wishes! I still can't believe that it is already twenty years ago that my eldest daughter was born.....

As you can see on the pictures above our Christmas tree is finally decorated. You have to know that I have at least eight boxes of Christmas ornaments in our loft. More than enough to decorate not only one, but three trees with!

I finally chose silver, grey, very soft pink and white ornaments. I added the little angels and hearts I bought at the Christmas fair. I am very happy with the result. The tree looks simple but beautiful. What I am most happy about is that it is still standing upright. Hopefully it will stay this way till New Years day!

At the moment snow is falling down heavily. I think there must be at least ten centimetres of it outside. We just went for a walk to our garden. It was magical. I will show you the photos soon. Enjoy your Sunday!
