Invasion of the pumpkins

I just love pumpkins. I love the big ones, like the Atlantic Giant, which looks so decorative in the fall near the front door, or the dusty orange Butternut pumpkin, that tastes so good in the soup or roasted with Rosemary from the oven. You can imagine how happy I was today when I saw four (!) pumpkins growing in our garden! One of them is a butternut. I thought the seed wasn't stong enough this year, but I was just impatient! The plant is growing lucious, like all the other pumpkin plants in our garden. Their tentacles grow over our gravel paths, through the tomatoes and Dahlias in the direction of our little garden house. It will not be long before our vegetable plot will be completely overgrown ;)! I have to say......those pumpkins grow faster than I thought they would :)! Maybe another month and we can harvest :) The cooking books are already laying on the kitchen table. Ready to use!

  6. Dear Madelief, Thanks for your kind words on my post about antique linen.Glad you liked it. To answer your question: I also did some enbroidered linen of my own, not while a bride because I was at the university and had no time, but mostly after i got married (only had children after 6 years so plenty of time). Most of what i did is not real antique linen but looks great anyway. I do intend to leave it to my children but unlikely my ancesters I'm using everything. Don't you think it's a waste not to? Besides most portuguese women these days do not appreciate this old fabrics and when they get them they do sell them!If one knows where to look it's possible to buy some.
    Have a grat night,
    Rosa

  7. Hello Madlief,

pumpkins are not so my taste but they are so decorative! And they have so many colours and shapes.
In germany we call your beautiful flowers "Dalien". I love them because they have fabulous colours. In my first garden I had them too but in my new garden we have to do a lot of work to make it pretty. The first things I planted were some white hydrangeas, an apricot rose and two blue wisterias. Next year I can plant more.

    lots of best greetings,
    rosenresli
