A country walk

The weather was beautiful yesterday. With two friends I made a walk of the Dutch forest commission in The Betuwe. The route was 15 km long. For an untrained walker like me, it was quite a stroll, but because of the change in scenery I didn't notice this at all. We walked through little villages, wetlands, forests and along the river Linge. It was Holland at its best! The route was full of apple- and peartrees, plums and brambles. Delicious! Fortunately, the muscle ache wasn't as bad today as I thought it would be. If it depends on me, we will make a new walk soon. If you have any suggestions.....please let me know!

  1. Dear Madelief, Love the pictures specially the ones on the fruit trees and berries - i absolutelly love berries and so does my baby. The photo you took from the house is amazing; it's such a romantic place!; it looks from one of Jane Austen's book! If I had walked what you did i would be ... dead! but you did great!
About Eça: i told you about "Os Maias" because it's his masterpiece and my favourite book ever. I think there's no tranlation for that title in any language just because it's a family's name and usually those are not translated. but i promisse to check it for you! which book have you found? whats the title?
    Have a sunny sunday,
    Rosa

  9. Dear Madelief,
Just found out that there's a dutch translation of OS Maias. This link might help you: http://por-um-fio-invisivel.blogspot.com/2006/08/artspotter-na-aldeia-global.html. If doesn't work there's an English publishing company that is selling an english translation called THE MAIAS from DEDALUS and it was released in july 2007. Just let me know if you were able to find something.
    Have a great monday,

  12. Hello, dear Madelief, what a wonderful (and long!!!) country-walk through a beautiful part of the Netherlands! I never WALKED for a long distance, when I was in Holland - I only went by bicycle: In 1983 my friend Brigitte and I did a very adventurous bike-tour through North-Holland (and we allways had headwind - which was expecially terrible when we went across the 33 km long Afsluitdijk... uff!) So you can see - I wasn't only Jeugdland-visitting in Rotterdam, in the Holidays I often went to the "North" (and I loved it in NL, GB, Eire, Denmark, Sweden, Finnland - the climate is better for my white skin...). I'm not sure if the summer starts later in Austria: I guess I planted the potatoes later than you ;-)
Take care - and I'm curious if you really do another long walk like this in the next future!!!
    Hugs Traude
