With this awful weather outside, it is pouring with rain, I need some serious cheering up! That's why I decided to place some pictures of Nymans gardens on my blog. Nymans is a 20th century garden set around a beautiful ancient looking house in West Sussex (England). Part of the house was destroyed by a fire in 1947. The ruin now offers a romantic backdrop to the beautiful garden. The Messel family lived at the house from the 1800s and created the base of the base of it. When the last 'Messel' died in 1953 the National Trust took over. The Messel family rooms are open to the public and worth visiting. In the garden you can find an impressive collection of trees, shrubs and plants from all over the world. The walk through the garden, along the lake and through the magnificent woodland surrounding it, is very special. The house is situated on a hill and from there you have a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. If your are planning a trip to England, I can certainly recommend Nymans. If the weather is fine, don't forget to bring your picknickbasket. Nymans is the ideal setting for a picknick with champagne, strawberries and whipped cream!

Dear Madelief,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenwhat an interesting and wonderful post. Such old buildings can tell so many storys and they are so romantic. The gardens are really a dream and the mixed boarders are looking great.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures from a beautiful place with us!
And much thanks for your answer. I showed the bush my parents-in-law (they live with us in our house) and they are ecxited. We will search for this plant in the neighbouring market garden. We have a small garden and we thing this would be perfect and the colour is absolutely pretty.

Hi Madelief,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI would so enjoy a picnic in that beautiful garden. The ancient house looks so interesting.
We went to the Rememberance Day service in town today with Andrews sister and stopped for lunch too. Do the school children still take care of the cemeteries in Holland? Mom is still doing pretty good-thanks.
We are having such nice weather here this week.It is definitely a bonus but I will be looking forward to snow by early Dec.
I look forward to your two Dutch Christmas's.We did not to that tradition at home-Mom always said when in Rome do as the Romans do! I think it is a great tradition to seperate Santa from the Christian celebrations though.
Is Rememberance Day a holiday in Holland?
Take care,
Carolyn
I am sitting here too listening to the rain. Most of it has moved out, but it does make for dreary days sometimes doesn't it? So that is what makes it nice to visit your blog, and see
BeantwoordenVerwijderensuch a wonderful place that you have visited along with such beautiful gardens. Perhaps one day that might be possible, but for now I look at it through your posts! I can imagine walking around with a glass of champagne, breathing in the most romantic smells of flowers, and laughing as the bubbles from the champagne tickle my nose. That would be a lovely time with special friends!
Thanks for sharing such a beautiful place!
Take Care! Ulrike
even snel hoor, het is zo druk in blogland ik wil graag even bij iedereen langs. Ik vind je foto`s zoals altijd weer prachtig!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenlieve groet,

Oh Madelief, I love this house / garden !!! Thanks to you - this is also cheering me up!!! I hope I will find an opportunity to visit this place some day. Next spring wi will make a one-week-trip to Cornwall but I'm afraid there will not be enough time to go to West Sussex, too... Hmm, we will see...
