Tulips from Rotterdam

Hello,

Thank you for your sweet comments on last weeks post. I am glad you liked it. Now and then I get requests to show photos of my home or vintage clothes and porcelain. I forgot who it was (was it you Wanda?), but one of you asked me to post photo's of my tulips once in bloom. Here they are: tulips from Rotterdam

Unfortunately I lost quite a few tulip bulbs over winter. Do you remember last years tulip patch I was so proud of? Well, there is not much left of it. Some small animal with sharp teeth thought it was a delicacy and ate most of it. Such a shame. I hope the little brute had a good meal though. At least he enjoyed the bulbs......:-)

For those of you who would like to know the names of the tulips on my photo's: the dark plum/black one 'Queen of the Night', the purple frailed one 'Blue Herron', the white tulip 'Spring green', the tall bright pink one 'Holland Beauty' and the soft double pink one 'Angelique'.

In one of my next posts I will show you some photo's of my garden house (on request as well) :-) It may take a week or three though, because I will be off to Cambridgeshire (UK) soon. Do you perhaps have suggestions on interesting/beautiful places to visit? I would love to hear !

Wishing you all a happy week ahead with lots of sunshine and spring temperatures. It's raining cats and dogs in Rotterdam at the moment.

Love,

Madelief x

  1. Wonderful! All of my tulips are withered now. At the moment there are only a few shrubs flourishing, most of all the forget-me-nots. Best regards from PillePalles byhage

I love seeing your garden as well as your lovely home and vintage clothing choices!
Your tulips are so pretty... every time I see them available in our markets I fill my vases as it reminds me of our visit last year to your beautiful part of the world. We are planning on a return visit in 2017 and can't wait!
Have a great visit to the UK and we will wait patiently for photos of your travels.
What a great photo of you in the garden! Take care.

  4. Hey Madelief,

    Ga hier maar even kijken.

  15. I love seeing pictures from your garden and your garden life! It's wonderful how those two trees have grown to make a natural arch. Although I don't know how many more years they can grow that way, I don't know the tree.

Happy week and happy and safe travels to England, I hope the weather is great!

It is sunny and warm here and I spent yesterday up island at my youngest daughter's soccer tournament and today I am looking forward to head out into my garden...I need to plant out some things from my greenhouse...

  16. I would definitely visit Ickworth an eliptical shaped rotunda in the Palladian style - it is a classical beauty, and Anglesey Abbey, both are NT and neither too far out of Cambridge. Kings College is a must, and any other colleges you can gain entrance to, but remember final exams may be in progress. Have a great trip and may the sun shine on you.

  50. Hello, lovely garden girl,
you look beautiful in the circle of your tulips! :o) I think the green-white tulip 'Spring Green' I have also in my garden - or at least a tulip that looks very similar. Too bad that animals has eaten the bulbs - I made this year the same experience with my strawberry plants ...
I wish you a wonderful time in the UK - certainly you'll see there again many beautiful things!

I do hope you will be able to visit - it is a special place and I have fallen in love with the romance of it. Also, if you are in Cambridge, the garden at Clare College is lovely too, and Anglesey Abbey is well worth a visit. Happy holiday Madelief x

  52. Dearest Madelief,
Too bad, you too face the same problem we had to deal with. Voles were eating all the bulbs like 'gourmet' food! We also had bad luck with our planter in which we planted orange Angelique tulips as they did rot away from too much rain... So next year we have to start all over!
    Sending you hugs,

  63. Hi Madelief, hope I'm not too late with this comment. I think you would love Green Knowe, the home of children's author Lucy M Boston, it's in the most beautiful village near Cambridge, Hemingford Grey. A delightful garden and the house is magical. Lucy made quilts throughout her long life and these can be seen too.
Cambridge Botanic Gardens are amazing, with a lovely cafe. Grantchester Meadows and The Orchard Tea Room where poet Rupert Brooke once lodged. It's touristy but well worth a visit and a walk along the river. Have a fabulous time!
