It's cold and sunny in Holland. A thin layer of snow fell yesterday afternoon and makes everything look magical. It's quiet outside, even in a big town like Rotterdam. Now and then you can hear birdsong or the beeping of a horn in the distance.
I have been pottering around the house. Getting my vintage finds out of their boxes. I found some floral cups and plates by Royal Albert, a blue spotted jug and some 1970s purple and blue fabric, which I love. Most of it will go to my garden house. I don't know where to put it yet, but I am sure I will find some space :-)!
To show you some of my finds, I mixed it with some new fabric, my Emma Bridgewater mugs, new Greengate jug (which I at bought at Lia's beautiful shop) and House Doctor bowls. Don't old and new look great together?
Happy weekend! For the Dutch girls: enjoy the sun & the snow!
Lieve groet, Madelief x

I love your blue teacup and flower pitcher....and that soft colored aqua flower fabric fits perfectly!!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like your weather is very similar to ours right now. It snowed all of yesterday and into part of the night. I woke up to a sinus headache and decided to visit your blog at 4 in the morning. It's just what the doctor ordered!!!
Stay warm Madelief!!!
Hugs,
Chris :o)

ReplyDeletetea cups, beautiful tea cups!!!!
ReplyDeletei love the vintage mixed in with the new wares, love the way you photograph your home and garden- blissful-joy!!!! keep warm xxxx
Oh, Madelief! The colors are so bright and cheery! and, once again, I'm jealous - one never seems to see these kind of pretty things anywhere around here. I keep thinking that, somehow, I'm just missing it but I don't know where to look. Everything, here, in Vermont, especially, is very natural and earthy - artisinal. Do you know the style that I mean? It's very beautiful but I prefer a pink rose and polka dots!!!! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the way you describe the bright, white and quiet winter's day, in Rotterdam! So special!
Love to you and your family. I hope that you had a cheery day! =]
xxo
sorry if my above comment is a little disjointed - I was running back and forth to open the door for my husband who's carrying heavy buckets of old bricks out from a chimney he's taking down. Renovations are so exciting!!! =] Our house is, finally, really, really coming along.
ReplyDeleteI think that pitcher has my name on it Madelief! Everything looks so tempting! I was first introduced to Emma Bridgewater's earthware in a B&B and liked the sturdy feeling but Worcester and Royal Albert china are still a favourite of mine!
ReplyDeleteSnow? Everything looks so pristine with it, is it not?
Thank you for a lovely look into Spring (very dreary here and cold)
Blessings,
Ja,lieve Madelief:-)))*
ReplyDeleteJe hebt gelijk!!!
Het is zo sprookachtig buiten..................ongeloofleijk mooi!
Thank you SO,SO very much for your visit by me,my dear friend:-)*
ReplyDeleteI like all these winter beauty................let me thinking about Russia!
Hugs to you,
***Violetta***
Ina
Morning Madelief, thank you for your comment. I love the pink kitchen too, it's so striking. Your teacups are wonderful, they remind me of my mother's set which I must get out of storage one day. Hope you have a lovely weekend in cold and sunny Rotterdam. I wish I was there, I do miss it. Regards Adriana
ReplyDeleteI love those different coloured candles, and so many of the other beautiful things, but the one which really caught my attention was the blue jug with the daffodils. I always like the zingy look of clear blue and yellow
ReplyDeleteDear Madelief,
ReplyDeleteYour photographs today are very beautiful, I adore the combination of your pretty teacups, flowers and gorgeous fabric.
Hope that you enjoy the snow, sunshine and your weekend.
Warmest hugs
Carolyn
While you were having that snow, we in New York have been amazed by our strangely mild weather.

ReplyDeleteLieve groetjes
Wat heb je prachtige, fleurige, gebloemde kopjes!! Zo mooi allemaal en zo leuk gecombineerd, Madelief. Romantisch en zo gezellig..een feestje om op tafel te zetten!

ReplyDeleteCheery Greetings, Madelief!
ReplyDeleteWhat a 'sunny' post, the teacup trio is so dainty and dreamy. I do love those cups - I would not be able to choose the one to have my tea in...haha
Hope you are feeling better. My hubby was in hospital this week, but is home again and much better. Thank goodness. :-)
I cannot wait to see what you've been up to in your garden shed...

Dear Madelief!
ReplyDeleteI love the colour palette you have given us this week. I adore those candles. I think I recognise them from your beautiful christmas table decorations? Am I wrong?
We had the delight of icy cold temperatures, blue skies and a powdering of snow too this week. Today? 15cm of snow. How about you? We are all so excited. A real winter at last for us lucky ones with a roof over our heads.
Stay warm.
Stephanie

Maaike
The tea cups and the flowery jug are to die for! You are a very lucky girl finding those! I am green with envy! xxx

Those will all look so pretty in your garden house.I especially love the aqua and white teacup-so pretty!
ReplyDeleteStay warm,
Carolyn
Hey Madelief (I like this name *gg*...), thank you for your lovely comment. Where did you get all these lovely vintage stuff ? That looks great and I love roses and perennial sweet peas... It is pretty cold in here, indeed a bit of snow, but I'm worried about my plants in the garden. Whether they survive the most? It is the third night of below -25 ° C. ..
ReplyDeleteWell, we'll see. I wish you a very good start to the week and send greetings from the Waldhaus, Christine
love them all, but it's always greengate that makes my heart beating faster :-))
ReplyDeleteMixing new and old is like inspiring a new breeze of life: old is old, new is new but in a combination they gain unexpected appearance.
Hi, dear Madelief-
ReplyDeleteit´s a long time ago, that I´ve been here. My Pc was broken- so I used the little netbook from my daughter- but to look in other blogs- it was too small for my eyes. Now we got a new one and I am glad, to admire your beautiful china- I really love those flowers on- it looks so great- and I think, to have different cups on the table is like drinking coffee in a museum- isn´t it?
Thank you for showing your beautiful china-world...
Ines♥
i adore your cups, I have to check into my cupboards, i am sure I have one similar with the month of May!!! Here is icy cold but no snow!!! Such great pics you have done, flowers and vintage, perfect mix!!

Dear Madelief
ReplyDeleteLovely vintage finds and glimpses of fabric here. The candles look so pretty in their ice cream colours.
I really enjoyed your last post on Deauville - one of our favourite places on the Normandy coast too. Great photos and yes, it is definitely the time of year to start thinking about holidays!!
It is freezing here and it seems that we may be in for some more snow. Those poor little spring bulbs appearing in my garden last week will just have to wait a little while longer ...!
Enjoy the snow.

Madelief, I don't have an email for you so I have to ask you here, would you be willing to do a 10 Things I Can't Live Without List for me?
ReplyDeleteNo hurry if the answer is yes, no worries if the answer is no.
But I know it would be one beautiful list.

Hello Madelief, Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do! I don't know if I can get it all done tonight, but I will give it a shot. Love all the different cups, and the candles! Wow! Ha!, and I bet I could dig around in some of my cabinets and find 1970's fabric too. There are just some things worth holding on to, and you have some beauties. I hope you are staying warm with that snow. Has it gotten as cold there as in Germany? We have had temps in the 70's, and this weekend is suppose to get really cold, by Tuesday a forecast of snow, yes snow! Crazy! Well, must go on....see you at the next post!
ReplyDeleteTake Care,
Ulrike
Hello Madelief
ReplyDeleteI never tire of beautiful china cups and I love to drink tea from china. It tastes so much better

LUCKY YOU....very nice porcelain....ciao Alison
ReplyDeletePrachtig! En zo mooi op de foto gezet. Grote complimenten!
ReplyDeleteHello Dear,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and make yourself confortable in our place. I loved your cups, and I think that is a great idea mix up the colors of candles... I and my sister (Camomila Rosa) love old disign and, whenever I can, always looking for a "new old cup" whith my family or related. I dont have a bit of shame to ask them... but "Camomila Rosa" wants kill me. ahhahahahaha! By the way, we want ask your permission to use a picture of your cup in our blog http://www.camomilarosaealecrim.blogspot.com/, with your link, of course. It will be wonderful.... Please let me know... I like very much of Holland, I spent 10 days in Amsterdam last year, but unfortunately I cant visit Rotterdan. Maybe in the next time. And you are right, this region of Holland have a magical look... and the people are very friendly... Well, I hope that you try the recipe of creamy cake with corn flour and cheese. This is a country candy ( provincial) of a traditional festival in Brazil... "Festa de São João" or " Festa Junina", where the most of candies and foods are mede by corn and peanuts. It is perfect with a coffee for a snack... Enjoy!
Best Regards,
Alecrim.
Dear Medelief,
ReplyDeletewe use a program to translate others blogs. However, as you have noted, we still dind't have a botton on blog. But now, we have included the google translator for our friends in other countries to read the posts contents. Thank you for tip and I hope you enjoy the blog. I know that the long days of cold weather can bother you, but here in this week we have faced 38 Celcius and this is not so easy to sleep at night with such heat without aircondition.
Kind regards,
Alecrim
Bellissime! So beutifull your vintage cups!
