When having a good look through my china cabinet this week, I realised part of it is so very kitsch :-)! Our house is modern, even design, but when it comes to my taste in porcelain, I tend to go over the top. I find it hard to resist pretty florals. My husband and daughters are used to it now and even start to like the treasures I regularly take home with me. Nevertheless there are times when I ask myself, for instance when I look at the colourful cake forks I recently found in the thrift store, what possessed me to buy them?! Does this sound familiar to you?
As we are having guests this weekend, I decided to bake a pie and use the forks straight away :-)! Apple Almond pie it was going to be. It turned out to be a good choice. It's a classic apple pie with a crispy shortbread bottom and a creamy butter almond filling. Although the taste is mild, we all liked it. Unfortunately I don't have the time to write out the recipe, but it came from Annie Bell's cookbook Gorgeous Cakes. When you enjoy baking, I can recommend the book to you.

Blijkbaar verleggen we onze grenzen, want ik merk ook wel dat ik nu soms dingen mooi vind die ik een aantal jaren terug niet in huis had willen hebben. De vorkjes zijn inderdaad wel bijzonder kleurrijk, maar passen toch goed bij het servies dat je al hebt.

Hi Madelief, I can't say it 'sounds familiar' to me because I only visited a thrift store once but they did not have anything remotely similar to the treasures you always show us here, I'd call what they had there rubbish and didn't bring anything home with me, actually wanted to get out of there as soon as possible ;) I'm even more amazed now when I see what you always find in there.

I recognize what you say about a more modern interior but floral designs in porcelain. I like a more modern interior but would love to have a closet full of the porcelain I see here, so far that's not really the case ;-)

Toevallig heb ik ook bijna een doos vol uit de kast naar zolder gebracht deze week. Met ook de gedachte waarom ik het ooit heb meegenomen . Maar goed, over een jaar kijk ik weer in de doos en vind ik het toch ineens weer leuk, mezelf kennende, zucht. De foto's zijn toch weer om van te smullen. Not too shabby, just lovely.

Wat een prachtige foto's Madelief. Volgens mij schijnt de zon bij jou altijd met al die fleurige vintage kopjes. Daar wordt je toch vrolijk van en wat een heerlijk taart.

Maar dan wel mooie kitsch. Die vorkjes zijn onweerstaanbaar mooi. Ik mocht willen dat ik die in mijn bezit had. Zou erg mooi staan bij mijn czechoslovakia ontbijtservies. Je foto's met de bloesemtak en de appeltaart zien er ook prachtig uit. Dit is echt 'my cup of tea' (of coffee, whatever).

hoi madelief, vind het zeker geen kitsch hoor! zijn erg mooie porceleinen kopjes en het heeft ook wel iets in modern huis herken heel veel van porcelein verzamelen of servies onderdelen vooral op markten en kringlopen is het niet veilig voor mij zie altijd wel iets leuk ( jammer genoeg) soms doe ik wel eens weer wat anders weg want anders heb ik ruimte gebrek maar het blijft een leuke hobby rond snuffelen na porcelein heb het niet alleen met kopjes ook met theepotten maar dan denk ik tja rook niet en drink ook niet dus laat dit dan een van mijn zwakke punten zijn de taart ziet er fantastisch lekker uit en helemaal op oud servies toch dat heeft wat een ikea bordje toont veel minder groetjes en een fijne zondag leon10

Hi Madelief, sometimes I also buy some kitsch, for example plates with roses, but I love them! In Istanbul I bought some tea spoons which are really (!) kitsch and so far, I haven't used them :). But I like your china and your cake looks delicious!
