Not many words today. Just some photo's of my allotment garden and dahlia's, which still flower abundantly. I thought they would have wilted by now, because of the cold nights we had, but quite the contrary. I even spotted the flowers of two new varieties, but no 'Café au lait' so far.....
One of you asked me what the names are of the dahlia's that grow in my garden. The thing is, I often buy large bags of mixed tubbers. So I don't really know. With two exceptions: the burgundy white and red striped dahlia, which is called 'Tartan' and the fuchsia pink one, which is called 'night dream'.
It was my intention to shut off the main water supply to my outdoor kitchen today, but somehow I ended up pruning my New Dawn rose at the front of my garden house. I thought it would be fun, but it felt more like being in a fight :-). My hands and arms are covered in scratches and my cardigan did not survive, but the job is done. Next time I will plant some bulbs..... Much easier!
Have a great week!
Love,
Madelief x
Lieve groetjes
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYour dahlia's are just beautiful, as is your whole garden in every season. How I would love walking there with you.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYou had a very successful growing season, didn't you? I have enjoyed watching your garden grow and have loved the beautiful flower arrangements with gorgeous flowers. We all need a rest now for the winter to get geared for spring, don't we. Gorgeous dahlias, as always. I must remember to plant them next year. Have a very good week.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI have closed my blog Madelief but I still hope to stop by and get a shot of colours now and then!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAll the best Dear,
Oh how lovely those dahlias in bouquets are.. there are some Laotian families that grow huge fields of them across the farm road from us in the countryside.. I'd love to buy a big bunch of them for the table. Enjoy your flowers in your home! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDahlia bouquets such as yours are the prettiest things for fall. The striped burgundy one is really stunning. I know that you'll smile every time you walk by that vase full of dahlias. Happy week.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt is lovely that there is still so much vibrant colour around in your garden Madelief even though we are heading towards November - happy bulb planting next week.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenPrachtige foto's!
BeantwoordenVerwijderengroetjes, Janneke
Utterly stunning! I ADORE Dahlias, they are just so blousey and bright. I wish I wasn't such a rubbish gardener that I could grow such beauties like these. Maybe one day! Have a beautiful week my lovely xxxx
BeantwoordenVerwijderenA beautiful colourful post to find on this pale grey Monday morning! Your dahlias really are gorgeous and I love all the bright pictures of them growing and in vases. Glad your battle with the rose is over now :) I hope to plant some bulbs this week but will have to leave my little dog in the house while I do or she will dig them up again!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHappy new week, dear Madelief.
Helen xox
Sounds like quite a battle; fortunately, relatively few casualties by the sound of it! A Dutch version of the Wars of the Roses. You've done it again with your colours, Madelief - absolutely stunning. I always feel in a better mood after looking at your photos!!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAll your dahlias are beautiful Madelief, but the striped one is exceptional, absolutely stunning! x
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThese beauties have become my favorites of the year, and all because of YOU and a few others out in Europe from Instagram! You make even fall feel like an endless summer. HAVE A SUPER DAY my friend!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDie dahlia's...
Fijne week! xh
Dahlias make such a wonderful show!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDear Madelief your Dahlias look exceptionally bright and cheerful! My tiny garden is still yielding cosmos but little else. I am waiting for cooler weather to plant the bulbs but your photos are convincing me to plant dahlias in pots too as they are such a lovely sight and make a great display in a vase. Happy week for you. Sharon x
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOh, die dahlia's!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDe kleuren spatten eraf. Heel mooi!
Liefs, Gerry
Gorgeous dahlias! You put so much time and work and love into your garden--it really is extraordinary. I am always so happy to see pictures of your summer house--such a charming, storybook abode. Fun to see the cat too.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWat mooi zeg prachtige kleuren....liefs fijne week van mij...x
BeantwoordenVerwijderenstunning!!!!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenhappy week, xxxx Ale
Lovely and bright and happy! My Mother loved dahlias and grew a large garden of them every year. I do need to try them - they certainly do make a person smile. I am done in the garden for the time being. It is drizzling rain....Lovely to visit your beautiful garden. Wishing you a happy week, my dear. xo Karen
BeantwoordenVerwijderenStill lots of beautiful colour in your garden Madelief!! :)

How wonderful to see your dahlia's still flowering. I will have a look for mixed bags next year as your display is just gorgeous! Sarah x

BeantwoordenVerwijderenI am starting my first garden at the moment, and thought I would tell you your beautiful garden is one of my inspirations, even though we are dealing with very different climates, me being in Australia. Do you have any tips for starting out a design.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMadelief, it's great to see that those brave beautiful dahlias are still defying autumn chill to continue their show!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOver here, the temperature has been flirting with frost levels, but have not quite gotten there yet. One of the NYC baseball teams is still in competition to reach the "World Series" final games of the Summer game. It's way too chilly during the evening games for those young fellows to be playing in shirtsleeves!
xo
Prachtig! XX Esther
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Madelief,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenToo bad that your cardigan suffered damage and your skin as well. It takes a LOT of love for loving the roses AND their thorns!
But you created again a lovely colorful Ă la Madelief blog post. Your signature colors. Never mind if you don't know their names. I must admit that in the first ten years or so I also feverishly documented all we bought and kept a garden journal where I wrote down what we planted where. But as things grow tall, certain things die off and you get gifts or whatever; it means simply you lose track. And I'm more carefree and JUST enjoy whatever blooms. Be it little or abundantly. Everything is a joy and photos made create double joy.
Congrats on your solo-management of all those chores. You can be very proud of yourself and there will be a special angel, you know by name, smiling down from heaven.
Hugs,
Mariette
Stunning Dahlias Madelief and stunning photos of them too! I love it when you take us to your lovely garden. It still looks so lush there. Here it is really getting dry drying up and the leaves are all of the lawn and in the beds.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI always love your gorgeous posts and I always leave sighing.
sending hugs...
Wow, wow, wow, Madelief! Absolutely gorgeous! Lovely colours and so much beauty! :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt's really fascinating how long and pretty your dahlias are blooming, my dearest Madelief!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSo beautiful, these flowers!
I also want to thank you for your nice comments on my blog! I'm happy that my Ireland-post brought fond memories to you! To answer your question: No, we didn't walk the Gap of Dunloe, my husband just wanted to leave the Ring of Kerry on that day and drive to Limerick. (Driving on the Ring of Kerry was exhausting and Edi started having problems with one of his legs. It hurt him even further the entire holiday, maybe because of his seat posture in the car...? But nevertheless we enjoyed our journey!)
Lots of hugs, my dear, and sweetest groetjes -
Traude
LOVELY and HAPPY colours! Your blog is really amazing Madelief...
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLove Titti

Oh how I adore dahlias, and these are all stunning. So many interesting shapes, and the colours are so vibrant. This post was a real treat, thank you :o)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYour post always inspires me to go out in the garden and plant something flowering. Even the vintage pieces in your potting shed makes me want to go and scour the nearest market for some vintage things. Always a delight to visit you Madelief.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWishing you a wonderful week ahead.
Hugs,
Aida
Oh, your photos are so lovely, Madelief. Every season is full of such beauty. I love this time of year and savour every minute. Deb
