During our visit to Gent we stayed in a beautifully decorated Bed and Breakfast, called 'Engelen aan de Waterkant'. The owner is an interior designer, and it shows. Our bedroom was tastefully decorated in black and white, with the most beautiful fabrics, bedlinnen and accessories. The bathroom, with a fresco on one wall and a roll top bath, soooo beautiful! I haven't even told you yet about the delicious breakfast, with fresh croissants & Belgian bread, yogurt with fruit and coffee and tea served out of silver pot. The B&B is situated in 'Het Zuid', a very lively part of Gent and about a 15 minute walk to the city centre.
Today some pictures of the B&B, but also of the streets, alleys and markets we walked through. I think Gent is a great place for shopping too. It simply has class. You could have seen me standing in front of the Delvaux shop, looking at the most exquisite handbags. It's a pity the bags are so expensive! I also enjoyed the shop 'Home Linen', which has a lovely collection of lace and linen tablecloths, napkins, night dresses, etc. The flowermarket on 'De Kouter' and the brocante market which takes place during the weekend on the St Jacobsplaats are great too. I bought a lovely white terrine with little blue flowers for only five euro. Isn't that a bargain?! You can see it on my last picture, together with the terrine I took home with me from Antwerp last year.

Oh, sigh! It's so beautiful! I LOVE B&Bs which, actually might be why I started one. =] This is very, very elegant, though. I, especially, like the bath!
ReplyDeleteOh, I would have so much fun at those shops. I just realized, a moment ago, when I was at Ria's blog, that I haven't gone window shopping in years. There are some beautiful artisans' shops in Vermont! I guess that it's because Tom isn't too keen on shopping. I need to get my sister and head out! We DO have a fun tradition, though, of going down to Keene and going to the big stores - Border's books, Target, the fabric store, etc. We had so much fun, yesterday, just getting little simple things - my British magazines, warm socks, a sweatshirt for David (who lost his lucky sweatshirt, last year), a satchel and some more peat moss and plant food for my garden. Oh, I got some cute garden gloves and some lovely Russian Sage, too! Fun - but I think that you've inspired me to look for something that is more on the quaint side. This is Vermont! How hard can it be????

ReplyDeleteGent is een dróóm van een stad en je B & B was prachtig. Leuk om een echt peluw kussen te zien op het bed! Typisch franse stijl en onbekend hier in de USA. Moet altijd zèlf de hoezen maken ervoor. Leuk om dit weer gezien te hebben, eventjes over de grens kunnen kijken door jouw interessante blog!

I just got home from a visit with Mom she had some smiles today but still so tired.
It is raining here again today. I need to get some clean up done in the garden soon. We don't have any tours until Oct. and by then it will just be fall foliage so I will have to give them a really good dessert!

ReplyDeleteMy cup of tea - totally!! THe B&B looks just perfect!!!! I can imagine how this has been THE most lovely place to stay!!! I keep different files on my computer, all for different countries - whenever I hear, read something about a good place to eat or stay, it goes on there..so this one in being saved...'cause you never know! (Also LOVE the name!!!)
You always go on these lovely little trips...makes me want to do it more often too!!! I often think, a short city break can do wonders! So important to see different wallpaper every now and again, VERY refreshing!!!!

I´m so sorry, I missed your last posts, but with a full-time job there is never enough time...Your crop looks very good, what about your aubergine now? What kind of plant is it, did you grow it from seed? I suppose the key to success is a refined (I´m not sure whether this is the correct English term) plant. My refined plant delivers so many aubergines, I can´t believe it.

ReplyDeleteI had 4 salads and then my hubby did halibut and salmon on the grill, I should have had 6 salads because the bowls were empty and then I had champayne,wine, punch and beer. I forgot to do the toast though I was so mad at myself but we had about 30-35 people everyone came so it was very nice! you were right the salads were the hit!!! Heidi

Wat een heerlijke rondleiding weer, en wat zullen jullie daar heerlijk geslapen hebben. Het zag er top uit.
ReplyDeleteEn ik heb ook een opvallend montuur van heel donker paars en de binnenkant is dan feller. En het gaat nu wel weer beter, maar kon het licht niet verdragen aan mijn hoofd. Nu sprak ik vandaag iemand en die zei dat het waarschijnlijk migraine is geweest, maar heb dat nooit gehad. Maar wat is hoofdpijn vermoeiend hé. Nou zien we er straks weer tiptop uit.

Gent is inderdaad een mooie stad. Ik zat er 6 jaar 'op kot' zoals we dat hier in Vlaanderen noemen, ik beleefde er een mooie studententijd. Je hebt zo te zien de mooiste plekjes wel gezien, en je hebt een van de mooiste B&B's gevonden!

Ik denk dat van alle plaatsen die ik nog eens zou willen bezoeken, Gent en Brtugge bovenaan staan. En dan wil ik natuurlijk ook overnachten in deze prachtige B en B! Jeetje, daar wil je toch niet je ogen sluiten, maar alleen maar blijven kijken en genieten van zo'n waanzinnig mooie kamer!

Heeeerlijk! Wat een stad! Ik heb een tassentic liefst met bijpassende handschoenen en hoeden en schoenen. Maar ik woon in een "gat" waar ik meestal in een oude spijker broek "woon" en een oude waxcoat draag omdat ik veel in het bos ben. Maar ja een Stad... Stijl, klasse allure. Ik vind het toch wel wat hebben hoor! Luxe! Net zoals dat heerlijke ontbijt mmmm.
