Into the bin it goes

Hope you had as good a week as I had?! Mine was chock full of all kind of lovely outings, appointments and even a party.

On Wednesday I roamed the streets of Den Bosch with my friend Ingrid from the blog Home and Lifestyle. I did not take enough photo's to turn into a blogpost, but Ingrid published some beautiful ones of our outing on her blog. Dear Ingrid, thank you once again for a fun day! x

Yesterday morning I decided it was time to relax and focus my, sometimes spinning head, on some serious baking. Fudge it was going to be. Ha, ha, it turned out rather differently than I hoped.

I read the recipe twice before starting, used a sugar thermometer to get the right temperature for a 'soft mixture', I added the necessary ingredients, stirred every two minutes like the recipe said, but nevertheless the mixture burnt to the bottom of my thick bottomed saucepan. Such a shame. The taste was absolutely vile. I made a photo of the badge to show you. I have to say that it doesn't look that bad. Perhaps I should not have told you this story :-)!!

I still don't know what went wrong.....If you have a 'fudge recipe' that is fool proof, could you please let me know? Well, I guess (hope) that things like this happen to the best bakers -)

Before I wish you all a Happy week, I want to say that I am sorry for posting on irregular days lately. It may happen again the coming weeks, so that you know. Hope you don't mind too much?!

Have a lovely week ahead!

Madelief x

    liebe grüße

  3. I am dizZzy with all of the bright colors. Your spring flowers look so--so-- springy and with our winter weather we ar all yearning for spring. As for hour fudge. I just cannot make decent fudge. I get the same results as you do. Mine is always grainy as the sugar does not dissolve. My hair lady said that means it was over cooked even with the Cody thermometer. I will aks my daughter for her recipe that makes a really smooth and creamy fudge.

  4. I adore your beautifully bright and cheerful photographs, they make me happy just looking at them.

  5. A lot of what I bake goes in the bin ;) beautiful flowers though Madelief, now they won't be in the bin will they! :) xxx

  8. It looks tasty enough but what a disappointment for you.

I've used this recipe from the blog Hello Fallow before with some success

  9. I know that type of cooking disaster well! :) Beautiful photos. Suzy x

  11. Pure spring-feeling! I smell it so much of your photos!!!
    Lovely Greetings, Olga.

  12. We all know those moments when things go wrong in the kitchen! Great recipes were invented by mistake!
    Love your colorfoul photos...

  15. Your photos are gorgeous just absolutely lovely, so spring like! I too have tried to make fudge several times and each time it fails, so I have just stopped making it...I do hope you find a recipe that works soon! Sharon x

  16. Hoi Madelief,

    Lieve groet,

  19. I saw a great fudge recipe on someones blog the other day, but I cannot remember which one. If I do, I will let you know! Glad that you had a good day out with your friend, but sorry about the fudge! xx

  20. Try this - the secret is using tinned condensed milk. No sugar thermometer required. It shows chocolate fudge but very easy to add nuts or make it plain if you prefer.

  21. Hele fijne week madelief groetjes Ria ...x!

  22. I hate it when that happens, all that work for nothing but it does happen to all of us at some time!!
That is such a pretty green teacup Madelief. :)
    V x

  23. I adore all your flowers and teacup images! And the embroidered table linen.. it makes me want to take up some embroidery! I'm working on a ripple blanket (just put up some photos on my blog). And I also have a big bouquet of daffodils on my table that I picked from our garden. Oh how I love the aroma of daffs! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  24. You always have such spectacular colours on your posts, Madelief! If it's any consolation, my posting programme is shot to pieces at the moment!

  25. These colors are such a shot of joy to my winter weary eyes.

    Xo J

    Liefs, Gerry

  32. Hi Madelief!
I love the spring flowers and the blue and green glass.
I'll be sure to visit your friend Ingrid. too.

    Happy week,

  33. your bright and cheerful images always inspire me.That blue/green cup and saucer duo with the gold handles is just adorable. I hope this week is as lovely for you too.

  34. Oh Dear I find fudge hard to make, now have a go at marshmallows...they are sooooo worth making.. but oh so delicious you cannot stop eating them!!!
Your hyacinths are divine, those deep cerise ones are gorgeous Ive only seen the blues and pale pinks so far.
Love your other pictures too xxx
    Hugs Lynn xxx

  35. Oh Madelief, I am sorry about that fudge. I've never tried to make candy of any sort, so I cannot offer any advice. (Of course, I have had quite a few other sorts of cooking misadventures, and can sympathise with you!)

Like you, I have another pot of hyacinths to keep me thinking of Spring, even as more, yes more, snow is due here this afternoon, and then again on Thursday. My hyacinths will be pink.

  36. Heerlijke vrolijke kleuren Madelief. Groetjes,

  37. Those images are just so lovely. Sigh. I've never been able to bake fudge either - I always cheat and buy it, ha ha! Hugs to you. x

  38. I would have eaten it anyway!!!!! I tried to comment earlier but I don't think that it came through.. I love love love all of the beautiful colors in the post. : )

  39. When I saw the title of your post on my feeder there was a image of one of your lovely cups underneath it. I was relieved to see that it was the fudge that had gone into the bin instead! Those spring bunches of flowers look wonderful. I hope you will be busy having fun over the next few weeks. Sarah x

  40. I, too, was alarmed by your title, Dear Madelief - thinking it was something precious that you broke! Still, spending all that time to create a recipe and having it turn out bad is always a dissapointment, especially for your taste buds, which I am sure were watering in anticipation! Your photos today were delightful, as always. The little tea cups are so sweet and so nice to see the fresh flowers. I especially love the colored glass in the last photo. Glad you were able to get out and enjoy some fun with your friend. I know you must be busy in the garden - as am I. There is never enough time for that! Hugs xo Karen

  41. Today I wrote about my colorless home on the blogg...well, here I get a real boozt of color and it makes me so happy! Love your beautiful blog Madeliefje!
Have a happy week, take care...

  42. I've always been too afraid to attempt making fudge. I should overcome that fear one day and just do it, but it all sounds so complicated :s x x x x

  43. Hi Madelief,
I love the cheerful spring color of your bulbs and your pretty china too, of course,
Glad you had a fun week and I always love to visit you whenever you post.
    Take care,

  44. Oh those flowers are such a pleasure! Everything here is white and gray. xo

  45. Your photos always put a song in my lovely!

  46. Such beautifully colourful and uplifting pictures here, your spring flowers are just gorgeous, especially combined with your wonderful china! I was sorry to hear your fudge didn't work out (though it did look nice!)....and hope you find a better recipe soon.
Wishing you a cheerful and sunny week......the temperatures are set to rise here so I hope they do in Rotterdam too.

    Hugs from here

  52. Hello Daisy
I've only just returned to blogland and I'm so happy to have found you, so how do I follow you? The fudge looks good enough to eat but I'm sure I can smell the Hyacinths in your beautiful photos.

  53. Lekker zonnig allemaal met die bloemen! Heerlijk, lente!!

  54. Hello dearest Madelief,
I myself am not a very good cake baker. My daughter, however, is a professional pastry chef - but she knows such mishaps, too. So don't be sad - shit happens ;o))
Your photos look beautiful in any case - very spring-like and colorful!
Lots of hugs & happy Weekend-groetjes,

Thank you for your lovely words.
