Hidcote manor gardens

It feels like ages since we visited Hidcote gardens near Chipping Camden in The Cotswolds, but it was only three months ago. Our two youngest daughters, who are twenty and eighteen years old, joined us. The attraction of a croquet set on the lawn and a tennis court they could use, was hard to resist. So while my husband and I enjoyed the impressive gardens at leisure, our two daughters were working up a sweat.

I loved Hidcote! It is one of the best gardens I have seen so far. It was originally made by Lawrence Johnston, an American garden enthusiast, in the Arts and Crafts style. Yew, holly & beech hedges define a series of garden rooms, like the white garden and fuchsia garden. There are fountains, a lovely folly with beautiful murals, a kitchen garden, a meadow of wild flowers and amazing views over the Vale of Evesham. When you haven't visited yet, you should. I think I may even prefer it over Sissinghurst! I came home with lots of ideas for planting schemes.

Which garden impressed you most?

Happpy weekend!

Thank you so much for guiding us through this wonderful garden <3 Hidcote Manor is on my list - the must visit-gardens of the world. At the end of May I had a chance to visit the RHS Garden Wisley and I can recommend it sincerely. There's so much to see.I wish I'll be able to visit the famous Sissinghurst next summer. For sure I'll visit the Chelsea Flower Show,I have tickets booked for two days...Have a lovely weekend.

  11. Madelief, I do hope to see that garden for myself some day...perhaps late springtime would be the best time?

That last contemporary photo of your daughters at the croquet competition is marvelous...the perfect accent.

You know that I also have a collection of old china, but yours puts mine to shame. Every stack of brilliant luminous china cups you show us is better than its predecessors.

  20. Dear Madelief - I am feeling nostalgic for the summer that is now gone. The patchwork of colour from the flowers, the soft mellowness of the Cotswold stone, and the magic that is Hidcote. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your trip to this enchanting garden.

Many thanks for your kind words on my blog recently, sorry for the delayed reply. Much love to you, Linda x

Dankjewel!

  57. Hello Madelief, I forgot to say, that the ladybird/insect home is amazing!
Thanks for your visit and comments. I know it seems like an excessive amount of flowers, but if I had the money, I think I would have them too! Much love to you, Linda xx

  58. gorgeous shots. it felt like we were going on holiday! Thanks! loved the colours and the watercolour painting midway through. Love Helen, Darcy and Bingley xxx

  59. It's my favourite garden too. Just perfect. xx

  60. I love Hidcote, it's up there among the very best. Although we are of course spoilt here in the UK, with so many similarly amazing gardens to visit.

Beautiful photographs, and a feast for the eyes on such a dismal, and very wet day!

  61. Your pictures are so wonderful, dear Madelief! And how lovely are those gardens? I'll have to got there one day, it looks amazing!

  62. I love this post, Madelief... but just quickly.... ;)

I cannot even imagine what it must be like to be there in reality. I'll bet that the pictures - even though they're just beautiful - don't even really catch it quite.

That is so funny... it looks like an exciting game of croquet!!! =D

and, that palette of pots, etc.... what's that for? Birds, perhaps? It's really beautiful!

Love to you.... the choir concert is this Sat and Sun - we stood for the whole three hour rehearsal, last night.... I'm off for a nap! Yawn!!! Not even Dear Earl Gray can seem to cure me, today! =/

  63. Oh, and, of course, another one of those gardens that I've wanted to visit for such a long time because of my book on the Cotswold's Gardens.

  64. I am so craving summer now my friend!!! But really I am having too much fun right now in this season. oxoxxo

  65. Wow! What a beautiful place. It's on my 'places to visit' list for next year.

  66. Aaah, this bright green, this harmonious forms - dearest Madelief, your pictures are an absolute treat for my eyes! And your daughters - beautiful, spirited young ladies!
Lots of groetjes & Küschelbüschel, Traude

  67. Hi dear Madelief,
oh I love Hidcote Manor Gardens.... I see you have had beautiful weather. As we visit the gardens years ago in June, we had rain and only 10 degrees!!! But anyhow it was a great visit. As we go back to our Hotel in Burford(!) the fire was burning in the fireside and we had "cream tea", that was a little compensation for the weather.
Wonderful pics, I 've forgotten to say!
    Lieve groetjes

    Groeten, Janneke

  69. Beautiful shots as always Madelief and it would be hard to chose! I love gardens! Thanks for sharing!
A warm hello from the Pacific NW coast and enjoy the Holidays,

  70. Thank you for sharing such amazingly beautiful photos! Especially nice to see some flowers this time of year! I've not visited Hidcote yet, but now it will be top of my list for next spring.
    Have great weekend Madelief
    Gill xx

Thank you for your lovely words.
