Jugs of loveliness

Where shall I start?! When I entered my garden after a short holiday in the UK, I was lost for words....
The sheer beauty of it all. I sat down on the grass and gazed in wonder. I could not remember the garden being this far when I left. The lilacs, lupins, daisies, alliums and colombines all in bloom.......and the colours...breathtakingly beautiful. Perhaps someone with a magic wand did it overnight? I guess not ;-)

Having a garden like this is all about dreaming, planning, planting and maintaining. After six years of hard work the garden looks the way my late husband and I hoped it would look one day. It's wild, there are lots of weeds, but there are masses of flowers .....When I look around me I realise this is only the beginning. The first roses are ready to open and so are the peonies. I believe it's going to be the best spring in my garden so far. Hope it will be a good spring for your garden too!

Have a colourful week!

Love,

Madelief x

  1. Lieve Madelief,

  21. Madelief, it seems that your own garden wanted to give you a brilliant welcome home from your travels. And succeeded! I feel so lucky to be able to see these photographs of a garden that I've seen develop for several years. I do know how much love and enthusiasm and just plain old gardening work have been given to this glorious space.

It's a garden that I would wish to see in my dreams. xo

  28. Dearest Madelief, yesterday was a holiday for us, so my husband and I spend ALL DAY walking around our beautiful city, then we went hunting for shoes for our big holiday coming up. We were happily exhausted when we came home, and I love it that way, like two children who have played all day and flop down on their beds to dream.....

And you are so right. Having a garden requires DREAMING, then planning and then planting. And so much of life is that way. I can't tell you how happy I am to be on Instagram and ALSO to come back to blogging. Now that I am forcing myself to work on my photography, I can see my blogging taking another turn, and thanks to people like you, Koralee and many others whose own photography art has inspired me, I think I'm finding the other half of my creativity.

These vessels of beauty are outstanding. YOU ARE SPECIAL! Anita

  31. I am so happy for you that your gardening is growing as you want because you have worked hard and it is beautiful. Your grow the same plants that we do, only with so much grace and elegance and beauty. Here we have had a month of rain. The landscape certainly is green and pretty, but we also would like some sunhine. The iris are slowly blooming and the peonies are about to burst forth--I hope. The columbine are blooming, too. The alium are so slow, though they do have buds at the end of their still short spikes. I always enjoy your photos so briliant with color.

  32. Hoi Madelief,
    Liefs,
    Mirjam

  33. Your flowers are blooming so beautifully and your photos are just gorgeous, Madelief! I grow some of the same flowers but can never keep lovely lupins in my garden, they are always eaten by snails straight away sadly! I love those pretty jugs too.....perfect with the blooms.
    Wishing you a wonderful week.

Groetjes,
    Hetty

  37. Oh my goodness Madelief, your garden never ceases to amaze me, it is looking so beautiful! A true source of inspiration for me, who doesn't really have green fingers, but ever since reading your blog a few years ago, I am now planting seeds in pots and even put my name down for an allotment, fingers crossed I get one this October, but if not I will just wait! I don't know where you find the energy or the time because it does look like a lot of work, but such rewards, I'm sure you could pick flowers every day and still have loads in the garden....so wonderful...wishing you a week of lovely gardening and flowers!

  47. Dearest Madelief,
Oh my what an embrace for welcome back home into such a paradise-like garden!
Sure, that magic wand, held by Angel Jan did work its magic and he too is enjoying it with and for you!
Sending you hugs and indulge in these little miracles. I too have almost daily some fresh roses, hydrangeas and gardenias for filling a special vase... A real DREAM and never mind those pesky weeds. It's something we don't mind in return for FAR more.

  50. What shall I say, dearest Madelief?
I Only can say WOW! Your garden is really breathtaking an you have the most wonderful flowers!
Don't you have any snails? They ate up ALL my Lupines (not this year, but about three or four years ago - and the flowers never came back...) But I'll try it again and I've bought a (copper-)snail fench (they say, snails hate copper... we'll see...)
Your photos from Ely are great (and soo sweet and nostalgic), too! You must have had a wonderful time there! :o)
Thank you so much for your nice words, my dear ("one of the sunniest persons in the blogosphere"... I'm blushing :o)))
