Floral china
Ever since I was a little girl I had a thing for floral china. I loved to peek into my grandmothers cupboard to see the pretty cups she had on display. I did not dare touch them, afraid to drop them and break the spell.
My mother was a collector too. It must have been in the late sixties and seventies that she received Royal Albert cups for her birthday. They were cherished and only used on special occasions. Through the years her collection is no longer complete, but when I visited my mother recently she gave me the cups and plates she still had, knowing they would be in good hands. Among them is her and my favourite, the 'forget-me-not cup' by Royal Albert. I gave it a special place in my dresser at home.
The amount of cups I have has grown over the years. I sold some, gave some to friends and family, but the once I kept all have a story to tell. When I drink my tea, I see images of the person who gave the cup to me. It's not only the cups that I cherish, but the memories to special people as well.
I would like to thank M from the lovely blog oc cottage, who made a beautiful post about my blog. It made me blush, LOL and put a big smile on my face. So very very kind! If you would like to see the post, please have a look at M's blog. Her other posts are lovely too. M creates the most wonderful works of art with shells and beads, has a great sense of humour, publishes beautiful photo's and loves porcelain, just like I do.
Wish you all a wonderful Wednesday!
LOVE,
Madelief x

Lieve madelief.

Met dank en beste groetjes,
Marjolijn
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLiefs,
Rozmeen
Hello Madelief,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYour china cups and photos are stunning.
I think a cup of tea tastes so much nicer from a real cup and saucer!
Hope you have a lovely day,
Lizx
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLieve groetjes Ilona
Absolutely gorgeous pieces of china Madelief! Tea should always be drank from a cup like these plus it makes it taste so much better!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenVictoria xx
such lovely photos Madelief, clear and bright as always!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMy mum also had the Royal Albert china set which came out on special occasions, I too used to love to look at them in her cabinet, in recent years I've collected some of my own, one off pieces that I display and use together. I'm always adding to my collection, often giving them as gifts filled with flowers or a candle.
Thanks for sharing:) I'll check out M's blog.

Oh My Goodness- I just found you through m over at OC Cottage. I am completely smitten and I am your newest follower. I had neighbors for many years from Holland- VandenMeerendonk was their last name. They are godparents to our youngest child (who is now grown). She, too, was a wonderful gardener and a wonderful cook and baker. It must be in your blood. Hugs- Diana
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI am so glad to have found you
Dear Madelief,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt is with a happy sigh that I read this post on my return from our wonderful holidays in southern Brittany today. You keep inspiring me and that is a wonderful gift. Thank you. I have read your request for a Mademoiselle Bluebird and I would be delighted to create one for you. It will be a real pleasure for me. I have a few special hare orders to make but I feel confident this little lady will be winging her way to Holland by mid September.
I'll be in touch.
Stephanie

BeantwoordenVerwijderenDear Madelief, your china collection is so beautiful and what makes it so special is that you see the loved ones in your mind when you are drinking from a special cup. Hello Madelief,

Lovely as always Madelief! Royal Albert is my favourite as well (albeit ex-RAF hubby was apprentice at the Worcester China factory). I keep hoping one day I will find a china cup/saucer with poppies...
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThanks for sharing!
Signed me, 'Drooling on the Pacific NW coast'...

Hallo Madelief,
Fijn weekend,
Lieve groet,
Mirjam
Oh, boy! Finally! I cannot tell you how many times I've come to this post, seen the first picture and, then, been interrupted. =/ I haven't even had a chance to scroll through and have a peek!!! Not this morning, however, the boys have just left for their first day of school. (heh, heh, heeeeh!)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenand, it's great minds thinking alike, again! I wonder if, when you have a chance or you're next visiting, if you would take a peek at my photo journal - the bit about the blueberry almond torte? (or, you could copy and paste: http://katysphotojournal.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-slice-of-blueberry-almond-torte-anyone.html) You know that I don't usually do this but...well.... it's kind of funny.... I talk about my mother's china cabinet, too!!! =] So, I can really appreciate your experience as a child! =]
My grandmother was Danish and had her one set of Royal Copenhagen dishes - immaculately kept! She always used a lace table cloth and her table was always 'just so'. (and the food was always delicious, too!) For my wedding, my grandmothers gift to me was a lace table cloth! It really means something, doesn't it?
Then, in your last picture, the one just before your writing, the bottom teacup on the left (to us) pile - with the rosebuds... I was given an 'antique' one of those for my wedding from a very gracious man who owned an inn that we would stay in when our family visited Vermont from California. He's a wonderful and extraordinary man and a privilege to know; so, when I see that teacup, it always means something amazing to me - that he thought of us and wished us well.
As for 'OC Cottage'... she does me a world of good!!! =] Her sense of humour has made me smile and laugh at myself, more than once - it's infectious and she's such a wealth of creativity! I saw her post about you right away and was SOOOO pleased!!! (I'm all smiles, all over again! =])
I think there's another post to read, so, off I go.... ;)
xxoo
I mean... I think I've come and just started to settle in to read this post, at least, FIVE times. Not kidding! (cross-eyed smiley!)
